It is undeniable that we change as we grow, but we rarely observe and document our growth and the changes happen in each stage. Meanwhile, in each stage, there are some needs that have to be achieved so that they have a good sense of self as they grow up. Thus, to increase the students' awareness about these changes and needs, we asked them to identify the stages of life by observing people around them.
Basically, they mentioned some stages like baby, kids, teenage and adult. Then, we introduced term like "infancy", "adolescent", "adulthood" etc. We also showed the following time-lapse video of a girl's growth, which shows physical development. To identify the changes in each stage, they were asked to interview their family members about physical, mental, emotional and social changes. They shared the result with their peers the following day. In addition, they also interviewed their parents about their own changes and find the pictures that represents their changes from baby up to now. After that, they made a project which was integrated with Bahasa Indonesia subject, as we want to assess their ability in making complete sentences (SPOK); using adverb of time (keterangan waktu) and transition words (kata penghubung). The product was called Buku Perkembanganku, which can be seen in the slideshow below:
